Offline-first cashless payments for a live festival
Offline-first RFID wristband payments for a live festival. Over $113k processed on day one of the first major deployment, and it paid for itself before the gates closed.
The brief
An outdoor event wanted to take cash out of the festival: faster bars, less theft, real numbers at the end of the night. The catch is that festival sites have no reliable internet, so the whole thing had to keep working offline.
What I built
- RFID wristband accounts with top-up and balance management.
- Offline-first architecture that keeps trading with no connectivity and reconciles when it comes back.
- Vendor kiosk app in React Native for iOS and Android.
- Real-time reconciliation, vendor payouts, and a customer portal for balances and refunds.
Outcome
$113,624.93 processed at the first major deployment, with the platform paying for itself inside day one. Cash handling gone, queues shorter, and every transaction accounted for.
